Rock 'n' Role

Role Playing Games eh? Games where you play with Roles like, Moles or Voles only Roles. Don't you just love computer genre typing gobbledygook! Anyway, here's a list of my personal Top RPG's and you will notice that it doesn't include any modern ones like Skyrim. ( To find out why, check out the 'Life and Games' page. )

 16th April 2012 : LEGEND Of GRIMROCK

Well, just as i was beginning to despair along comes a great new game with old skool values from modern independent developer Almost Human. You can get this gem from GoodOldGames.com with no DRM - personal opinion would be to avoid the steam version unless absolutely necessary :)

The Game is a classic Dungeon Crawl in the mould of the old classics, Eye Of The Beholder and Dungeon Master. If you're too young to remember these games you can find out what all the fuss was about by playing this. Four prisoners are sentenced to be thrown into the dungeon of Grimrock. If they survive the gauntlet, they earn their freedom. Simples! Or is it. The game boasts excellent optimised graphics and ambient sounds, most levels from the first 'intro' levels contain some ingenious, well designed and down right wicked puzzles that must be solved in order to progress deeper into the labyrinth. Add some excellently textured creatures who just want to eat you for dinner; a fun rune based memory game magic system and plenty of secret rooms and areas to discover and you have a game that will kick your ass and keep you coming back for more. My only minor criticism of the game is that some of the creature combat can be a bit over the top and a bit frustrating if you find yourself with a non focused party build and some areas you will suffer in if you did not take the right level up skills for your characters, but there's nothing that can't be overcome with a bit of creative thinking. Then again, players younger than myself with better keyboard reflexes and quicker minds might disagree there :D

FALLOUT SERIES:

01-09-2012

Finally started my casual play through of the fallout games starting with Fallout 1 and Wasteland. I'm playing the original IBM DOS PC version of Wasteland in parallel with Fallout as the latter took inspiration from Wasteland and came from the Interplay stable back in the day.

Also exited in anticipation of Wasteland 2 - Development headed by Brian Fargo and original Interplay employees now under the name of InXile and funded from KickStarter.
