Oh My Elona!

On this page you will find updates & info. on my favourite Rogue likes. Most of these will be featured as 'Casual' LP series on my you tube channel as part of my 're-focus' on playing the games that i have most fun with and just keep coming back to. Note: I do not consider Dwarf Fortress to be a 'rogue like' as that side of the game is extremely weak and the more commonly played 'world simulation' as the real meat of the game has it's own page on this blog.

Here's 'The' list:

Exo's LP of Elona on You Tube

Originally a Japanese RPG, you can set the language to English translation when the game launches for the first time, don't let the 'cute' anime cartoon style put you off. This game is tough and will take every opportunity to screw you over.: From the way the game punishes a player with mutations, curses, hexes and over whelming odds in it's favour. Fans of the rogue like who love the excitement of challenging game play will not be have not been disappointed here!

Features wise the game is well fleshed out and complete, with static town based quests from NPC's as well as random quests or 'sub' quests that constantly change from day to day.
The game also contains many seriously weird secrets, from alien chest bursting 'pregnancy' epidemics to corpse eating for stat stat boosts and positive mutations as well as religious sacrifice.
The world also contains many traditional dungeons with end level boss guardians both as 'quest' locations and for random dungeon delving expeditions for loot.

Players can buy deeds for houses and businesses in the game world, invest in other town businesses for better goods and also run their own museum for fun and profit. There is also a server that the game can connect to which will keep you informed as to what other players on line at the same time as you are up to, including the gruesome manner of their death. When a player dies he can leave a comment about his demise for all to see and there is also an on line voting feature in which players can vote once per month for their favourite player alias.

Unlike most 'roguelikes' however. The game does not force the player into 'permadeath' upon losing his life: Instead, the player will receive penalties that range from permanent stat loss, gold loss, experience points loss and maybe even detrimental curses or mutations and sometimes these penalties can even make the avatar unplayable, so that you wish you had chosen the 'lie down and die' option in the first place!

And......DO NOT get caught out in the mysterious Ether Wind!

If you have not played this game before and your curiosity has been piqued then it recommended that you also download the music and graphics packs along with the main game files to enhance your experience. Below are some in game screen shots with the graphics pack installed.
